In the bad old days CDL used to spend an inordinate amount of time and money producing business cards for Clients. The whole process was very protracted and involved numerous stages of traditional design and offset litho printing. To ensure the Client received a cost-effective product we invariably needed to print the cards in multiples on a larger sheet containing a selection of names and the subsequent proofing and re-proofing of the users details took a substantial amount of time from all parties. We often found it necessary to print and hold a costly level of base stock in order to reduce the unit price.
Eventually we at CDL came to the decision that the time, initial cost and financial return involved in producing business cards in this fashion was no longer acceptable so we looked to find an alternative solution. Around this time coincidently, CDL had made a decision to create a Digital Print Service as we felt that the quality and results from this new generation of press had finally risen sufficiently to meet our Clients expectations. After detailed trials we found that this new technology would be more than capable of reproducing high quality full colour business cards on wide range of stock.
Our next task was to make this superior technology available to our Clients by means of a more direct and efficient method. CDL’s in house IT technical staff then spent countless hours programming and adapting our web applications to incorporate what we now call Business Cards Direct. This service was immediately praised by our existing Clients and turned into an instant success with numerous new customers requesting a slice of the action.
What makes Business Cards Direct so unique?
From the very beginning CDL identified the need for a web application which would give Corporate Clients the ability to create, save and amend a library of business card users. In all cases, a replication of the card is rendered on the screen as a PDF which can be printed locally and proof read or sent to the user for verification before printing. Once approved the card order is pulled directly into CDL’s workflow system and subsequently sent direct to the digital printer with little or no further user intervention. Your business cards are then delivered within five working days.
There are occasions whereby CDL would recommend that Clients continue to use traditional lithographic methods to reproduce their business cards - maybe because the customer requests a particular substrate or complex finish. This is no problem for Business Cards Direct. We have designed the application so that Clients can build a job consisting of selected names contained in their library, proof them individually and transfer the saved information directly into our offset workflow system.
